Bentley's Hat - Fixation

So, I was in upstate New York last week and was getting some serious knitting time riding in planes and cars (after 4 days of Stitches East) and stopped by a cute shop (no it wasn't a yarn store) that was selling a hat.  I looked at the hat and realized I could probably come up with something pretty similar and that Fixation would be better than the cotton it was knit in since it was stretchy and machine washable and dryable.  I probably noticed this hat in the first place, because a friend is expecting her first child (a little boy to be named Bentley - although I may have butchered the spelling) and I was trying to figure out something to make that would be somewhat special.   

 So, I whipped out my handy black sheep measuring tape, measured the brim and drew a quick sketch when I got back to the car.  Then, I realized that the one color I had of Fixation would simply not do for what I had in mind.  Fortunately, I was visiting yarn stores and was able to find a more appropriate color..... So, now I need to knit another so I can send this one off to the very worthy recipient.....  Also, I decided I needed to make a second size since it was so quick and really is quite cute.....

Abbreviations

K - Knit

P - Purl

C6F - Slip 3 stitches to cable needle, hold in front of work, knit next 3 stitches from LH needle, knit 3 stitches from cable needle

C6B - Slip 3 stitches to cable needle, hold in back of work, knit next 3 stitches from LH needle, knit 3 stitches from cable needle

Cast on 70 (80) stitches
Join in round, careful not to twist.

Row 1 - K
Row 2 - P
Continue for 2"

Change to US 6
Row 1-3 - K2, P2, K6, P2, k11 (16), P2, k6, p2, k4, p2, k6, p2, k11 (16), p2, k6, p2, k2

Row 4 - K2, P2, C6B, P2, k11 (16), P2, C6F, p2, k4, p2, C6B, p2, k11 (16), p2, C6F, p2, k2

Row 5-6 - K2, P2, K6, P2, k11 (16), P2, k6, p2, k4, p2, k6, p2, k11 (16), p2, k6, p2, k2

Continue until 6 (7)" long.
Bind off using 3 Needle Bind off (turn work inside out before staring).  Weave in ends.

3 needle bind off.
1. With the right side of the two pieces facing each other, and the needles parallel, insert a third needle knitwise into the first stitch of each needle. Wrap the yarn around the needle as if to knit.

2. Knit these two stitches together and slip them off the needles. *Knit the next two stitches together in the same way as shown.
3. Slip the first stitch on the third needle over the second stitch and off the needle. Repeat from the * in step 2 across the row until all the stitches are bound off.
